Mental Health Stigma Reduction for Refugee Men
'Tell Your Story' is an innovative online program designed to help refugee men overcome the stigma associated with talking about their post-traumatic stress. The multilingual program is the first of its kind to target self-stigma in refugees and features video stories of refugee men who have benefited from taking action and speaking about their own difficulties. Information, activities and these stories combine to challenge common myths and support men to take action and gain effective support for stress.
In 2016, we are testing the effectiveness of the 'Tell Your Story' online program as part of a randomised control trial (RCT).
The project is conducted in partnership with Settlement Services International (SSI) and the Black Dog Institute and is funded by beyondblue through donations from the Movember Foundation. We wish to thank the individual members of our steering committee and community advisory boards as well as organisations for their significant contribution to this project, including the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS), the NSW Transcultural Mental Health Centre, the Refugee Council of Australia and the Australian Red Cross.
