Jenny Im

Jenny is currently in her first year of the combined PhD/Masters of Clinical Psychology degree at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She completed her Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) degree in 2023 at the UNSW and was awarded First Class Honours for her thesis on Environmental Stress, Self-Efficacy and Mental Health in refugees under Professor Angela Nickerson. She has since worked as a Research assistant with the Refugee Trauma and Recovery Program at UNSW. 

As a research assistant, Jenny has been part of various projects, including a systematic review on protective and promotive factors for refugee mental health, a moral injury case series in refugees and she is currently working on a meta-analysis examining psychological processes underlying PTSD in refugees and is part of a massed Narrative Exposure Therapy case series.

Jenny’s doctoral thesis further investigates self-efficacy in refugees under the supervision of Professor Angela Nickerson and Professor Belinda Liddell. Her research aims to investigate the predictors of different self-efficacy trajectories and resulting mental health and settlement outcomes for refugees. By better understanding the complex interplay between environmental and individual factors and their effect on overall wellbeing and adaptation, Jenny’s research aims to further inform and tailor available treatment and support in the refugee resettlement context.
