RTRP Counselling Program
A free online treatment for refugees and asylum seekers who speak Arabic or English.
Do you, or does someone you know, experience:
nightmares?
unwanted memories?
feeling upset when reminded about past traumatic events?
The Refugee Trauma and Recovery Program (RTRP) at the University of New South Wales is offering a free, confidential counselling program to help refugees and asylum seekers overcome symptoms related to these experiences.
What is involved in this program?
First, we will speak to you briefly over the phone to determine if this counselling program is the right fit for you.
If you choose to take part in this counselling program, there will be 7 counselling sessions in total, completed over 3 weeks.
All appointments will be with a psychologist (and interpreter, if needed).
All appointments will be online using Zoom (on your phone or laptop).
Each session will be 90 minutes.
The counselling program is free and confidential and focuses on overcoming the effects of past traumatic events.
Taking part also involves attending 90-minute online interview sessions before and after the counselling program, so that we can understand your progress. These interviews will ask about your past experiences and current difficulties.
What are the benefits of this counselling program?
Benefits could include improvements in symptoms (such as reducing the frequency and intensity of nightmares and unwanted memories of the past), as well as improvements in relationships with family and friends and overall quality of life.
How can I find out more information? How can I take part?
Complete a 1-minute form to register your interest. Following this, we will call you (with an interpreter, if requested) to discuss the program and your eligibility.
